A High-Performance Ford F-150 Lightning May Be In The Works

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently posted an image to his Instagram of what appears to be a high-performance F-150 Lightning. In the image, we see Farley with Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo as they sneak a peek at the new Lightning pickup truck. The context for the post was that Ford’s CEO was meeting with the Red Bull Formula 1 team, which it had recently partnered with, for a branding opportunity. The Blue Oval’s CEO commented on the upcoming vehicle stating, “Ford Performance has built really special EV demonstrators.” Ford Performance serves as Ford’s high-performance division. The particular division customizes and designs innovative vehicles that may eventually release to the general public. Although Ford did not provide any extra details about the new Ford F-150 Lightning, we can expect it to be revealed soon.

Is A High-Performance F-150 Lightning On The Way?

The reason for the meeting was the Blue Oval’s recent partnership with the Red Bull Formula 1 team. Ford has agreed to an engine branding opportunity with the professional racing team. As a measure of good faith, Farley showed off Ford’s latest products to the team, including Ricciardo. In the post, we see the dimensions of an F-150 Lightning, and Farley also explains that Ford Performance has built some special EV demonstrators.

Ford Performance serves as Ford’s high-performance division that specializes in custom vehicles. Ford’s CEO teased the division’s latest innovation which appears to be a high-performance F-150 Lightning. Since its debut, the F-150 Lightning has had an overwhelmingly positive reception. This goes for the automaker’s Mustang Mach-E as well. Despite this, the Blue Oval is always eyeing new ways to improve its lineup. This brings us to the upgraded F-150 Lightning, which seems to be the next innovation in the works. 

Ford did not share many details about the new F-150 Lightning, but it stated that it is working on the next EV demonstrator. For Ford, a demonstrator serves as a preview of what’s to come. Examples of this include the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400, which was followed by the Mach-E GT. Ford Performance is responsible for taking vehicles within Ford’s lineup and pushing them to new heights. As such, a high-performance version of the Ford F-150 Lightning is expected to arrive soon. Since many automakers have been working toward their electric pickup trucks, it makes sense for Ford to wait for the best opportunity to showcase a more powerful version of the F-150 Lightning. We’ll stay tuned for now, but it’s exciting news to have an even more powerful F-150 Lighting on the way.
