Thanks to Ford Motor Company and Manufacture 2030, we’re witnessing a strategic partnership in the making. The collaboration will assist the automaker with its global carbon deduction of carbon neutrality by 2050. Ford intends to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe much sooner with the target year 2035.

The Blue Oval has never been afraid to set the tone and the tempo for the automotive industry. Ford continues its perseverance as the first American automaker to join Manufacture 2030. Furthermore, M2030 is a global supply chain platform established to assist suppliers monitor and reducing carbon emissions. It’s no secret that Ford assembles more vehicles and employs more workers than any other automaker in America. As a matter of fact, Blue Oval City was one of the first to join forces with the international community. Furthermore, the international alignment worked to constrain the effects of global warming in response to the Paris Climate Agreement.

“Achieving carbon neutrality for Ford is an important corporate goal and integral to our purpose to help build a better world. It is becoming a strong demand from our customers, shareholders, and investors, and the supply chain is essential in achieving this goal. Hitting our targets will require we cut emissions across our entire value chain, particularly from purchased energy, goods, and services. M2030 is a key program for Ford to help us all in not only reporting emissions but in forming realistic action plans and glidepaths to achieving our goals.”

– Jonathan Jennings, Ford Global Vice President, Supply Chain

Phase one of the M2030 partnership will feature 5,000 Tier 1 voluntary platforms for global supplier sites spread across 66 countries. In addition, the first phase includes suppliers that need more clarity about their carbon reduction strategies. The M2030 platform will help suppliers select the appropriate action to measure, manage, and reduce carbon emissions.

“This is a powerful example of how Ford’s scale and proven industrial expertise can help accelerate the shift to EVs and support a diverse supply chain that is good for people and the planet and good for business. By working together and leveraging our collective expertise, we believe this platform will help our suppliers deliver significant carbon reductions and greater positive impact.”

-Cynthia Williams, Global Director of Sustainability, Homologation, and Compliance at Ford

The demand for EVs continues to mount as Ford recently announced several initiatives to source battery capacity and raw materials. Additionally, the initiatives will help the automaker reach its annual run rate of 600,000 EVs by the end of 2023 and 2 million by 2026. However, even with Ford looking toward new EV supply chain commitments that foster sustainability and respects human rights, the automaker maintains that its global production will consist of 50 percent EVs by 2030.
