Ford and Xcel Energy Team up for 30,000 EV Charging Stations by 2030

Ford Pro, the commercial division of Ford Motor Company, has partnered with Xcel Energy, a leading clean energy company, to install 30,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the United States by 2030. This partnership aims to benefit eligible business fleet customers significantly, with Xcel Energy covering most of the expenses. The aim of this collaboration is to accelerate the adoption of EVs and promote a sustainable future.

Ford Pro and Xcel Energy have teamed up to launch the 30×30 initiative, a new program aimed at promoting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and expanding access to charging infrastructure for business fleets across Xcel Energy’s service areas in the US. The program’s primary objective is to make it easier and more affordable for businesses to acquire EV charging solutions and support.

To achieve this goal, Xcel Energy will cover the majority of the upfront costs associated with EV charging equipment and installation for eligible businesses. At the same time, Ford Pro will provide end-to-end charging solutions to Xcel Energy’s business customers. The 30×30 initiative will debut in Colorado and Wisconsin through Xcel Energy’s Electric Vehicle Supply Infrastructure (EVSI) program starting in 2024, with plans to expand the program to other states, including Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas, over the next six years, subject to regulatory approvals.

This partnership between Ford Pro and Xcel Energy is expected to streamline the process of acquiring EV charging solutions and support for business fleets. Xcel Energy will install charging infrastructure for eligible business customers who enroll in an approved EVSI program in their service location, with most of the upfront costs associated with the installation of charging equipment offset by Xcel Energy. On the other hand, Ford Pro will provide Ford Pro Charging equipment and post-installation customer service and support.

Business fleets can take advantage of Ford Pro Intelligence, which offers intelligent charging software and connected solutions such as Ford Pro Telematics. These solutions can help businesses increase uptime and reduce operational costs by providing access to data from both vehicles and chargers. By optimizing when, where, and how EVs are charged, these solutions ensure that the vehicles are ready when businesses need them.

These options provide fleet operators and drivers with greater flexibility and potentially shorter charge times.

Ford Pro is also taking an innovative approach to reducing electric grid emissions by partnering with Xcel Energy to analyze telematics data from participating vehicles. This analysis promotes commercial charging during off-peak times, saving customers money while reducing emissions.
