Ford Breaks New Ground With New Tesla Superchargers for F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E Owners
Today marks a milestone as retail customers of Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E become the first among non-Tesla automakers to access Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada.
As indicated by a recent Study, the insufficiency of charging stations ranks as the second most significant hurdle, trailing only price, in the decision-making process for purchasing an electric vehicle. With the decreasing prices of EVs, enhancing access to dependable fast charging becomes crucial to encourage more customers to opt for an EV confidently.
Over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers are available, doubling customer access to reliable DC fast charging on the BlueOvalâ„¢ Charge Network.
Expressing gratitude towards its electric vehicle patrons, Ford makes the Fast Charging Adapter available at no cost to new and existing customers enrolled in the BlueOvalâ„¢ Charge Network until June 30, 2024. This adapter is essential for charging at upgraded Tesla Superchargers. Notably, Ford’s retail EV clientele stands as the inaugural group within the industry with the option to request the Fast Charging Adapter. Orders placed by June 30, 2024, qualify for a complimentary adapter. For forthcoming Ford EV purchasers, the adapter is available for purchase from Ford for $230, including estimated tax and shipping.
During this spring, Ford Pro commercial customers will receive communication via mail, directed to the registered address with Ford Pro or through their Ford Pro account manager, to initiate the process of ordering an adapter.
The BlueOval Charge Network furnishes a seamless stored payment account accessible through the FordPass App or Charge Assist App (soon to be named “Public Charge”) directly on the vehicle’s touchscreen, eliminating the necessity for on-site credit card usage. Once account setup is complete and Plug & Charge activated, Tesla Superchargers will support Plug & Charge functionality with Ford EVs. Consequently, customers only need to plug in, and charging will automatically commence, with charges managed via FordPass.
Looking ahead, Ford plans to introduce next-generation electric vehicles equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector built-in, obviating the requirement for an adapter to access Tesla Superchargers.
