Ford is in the Kitchen Cooking Up a Fiery New Maverick

Not too long ago, Ford Authority reported that Ford had new plans for its bite-size pickup, the Maverick. Expanding on the small pickup is no surprise since the truck has earned many accolades, notably as one of the best vehicles to purchase in 2022. However, at the time of writing, the Maverick holds two variations. The first version is the base hybrid model, and the other is a gas variation that inherits the Bronco Sport’s zestful engine. However, it wasn’t until recently we received word that the Blue Oval may have a more potent variation of the Maverick underway.

Initially, Ford Authority stated last August (2021) that the majestic pony automaker considered production for the Maverick ST. Moreover, recent spy photos from Motor 1 revealed the Blue Oval taking what seems to be a Maverick ST, out for a spin. So why do we think the prototype is an ST version of the pickup? To put it simply, the front end of the Maverick prototype displays more cooling. Additionally, the rear holds an opening for a dual exhaust system. Lastly, the mock pickup truck conceals what seems to be more aggressively flared fenders.

Ford has yet to affirm the construction of the Maverick ST, and the automaker has yet to declare what the pickup’s features would entail. However, if the world were to be blessed with a Maverick ST, the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder would be the best engine for the pickup. Anyone looking to spend some quality time with their potential future engine can find the turbocharged engine inside the Mustang and the Bronco. Additionally, the EcoBoost engine is no stranger to front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive applications. Furthermore, the four-cylinder engine is no stranger to mating with a six-speed manual transmission, although we don’t expect to see it on the Maverick

It would be typical of the Maverick ST to be tuned to the rhythm of 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque from the 2.3-liter EcoBoost. However, no one will argue if the Maverick ST inherited the discontinued Focus RS’s 2.3-liter engine, which renders 350 horsepower.

What we do know is that if the Maverick ST makes its way to the open road, it is imperative that Maverick enthusiasts shop around for their reservations bright and early.
