Ford Prepares Ranger Lightning for 2025 Model Year
It’s kind of hard being the powerhouse celebrity of the family; at least, that’s the case for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Why is it difficult? Simply because the Lightning doesn’t stop at being historic for Ford but other automakers around the world because of its full-size and all-electric powertrain. The F-150 Lightning is on the road to becoming legendary, but sometimes the road grows a little lonely, and Ford has the perfect remedy for that. Furthermore, the Ford F-Series family may expand with the addition of an electric Ranger pickup.
No one could ever prepare for the demand the F-150 Lightning received. The electric pickup has exceeded the Blue Oval’s expectations, with the automaker looking to outstrip to satisfy demand. CEO of Ford Jim Farley stated there would be another electric truck underway. Ford recognizes the success and the importance of an electric pickup. So why wouldn’t the legendary automaker work to provide everyone with an opportunity to own an electric truck tailored to their desires? Ford has mastered the output of high-volume vehicles, so it’s only fair for the automaker to master a new goal: to become the leader in electric cars.
Although Ford CEO Jim Farley acknowledged there was a new electric on the way, he and his team are not disclosing any information on the new addition. However, Farley did eliminate the possibility of an electric F-250, F-350, or F-450. Additionally, the Ford CEO said that the truck would be different from the next-gen F-150 Lightning. The differentiation is because so many enthusiasts assumed that the automaker might aim for a smaller pickup.
Last week (July 11, 2022), we revealed Ford’s trademark filings for the Maverick Lightning and Ranger Lightning. So we anticipate the next electric pickup to debut will be the Ranger Lightning. Additionally, the future electric pickup will give the automaker a new electric pickup that will only expand Ford’s success. Ford stated that the next-gen electric pickup would cross the assembly line at the automaker’s new plant in Stanton, Tennessee. Moreover, the next-gen F-150 Lightning will also begin production at the Stanton plant in 2025.
We are, however, eager for one pony to leave the Blue Oval stable, an electric F-150 Raptor. The idea of the electric Raptor existing on the same platform as the next-generation Lightning is enticing. If the electric Raptor does come to life, the pickup will produce more than 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque available on the current Lightning. However, the electric Raptor is merely a possibility we may see after the reveal of Ford’s smaller pickups.
As Ford’s trademark filings suggest, the Maverick Lightning will eventually roar to life. The Ford Maverick is a car-based small lifestyle pickup with a hybrid powertrain. However, we anticipate the electric Maverick will be the last to debut since it’s already affordable and an entry-level pickup. Additionally, the Maverick has very little in common with the body-on-frame of its oldest brothers, the F-Series. Although Ford filed trademarks for the electric Maverick now, we will have to wait a while for its debut.
