Ford Puts the Family First with 6,200 New Jobs
“We’re investing in American jobs and our employees to build a new generation of incredible Ford vehicles and continue our Ford+ transformation. Transforming our company for the next era of American manufacturing requires new ways of working, and together with UAW leadership, we are leading the way and moving fast to make improvements to benefits for our hourly employees and working conditions for our factory teams.”
– Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO
The Automaker of the Year does it again, only this time, Ford received some assistance from United Auto Workers (UAW). UAW and Ford Motor Company revealed their plan to add 6,200 new manufacturing opportunities for the Midwest. In addition to the 6,200 new jobs, 3,000 temporary UAW-Ford workers will transition to permanent full-time status. Moreover, all hourly workers will receive healthcare benefits once they begin their first work day.
“The essential necessity of quality healthcare and full-time employment are long standing principles that have been communicated to the company by the UAW International Union and our UAW local unions since our inception. I applaud the actions of Ford Motor Company to address these issues outside the realm of collective bargaining. These unprecedented steps taken by Bill Ford and CEO Jim Farley are both a refreshing and innovative approach to labor relations that delivers great benefit when most needed by our hardworking members.”
-Chuck Browning, United Auto Workers Vice President and Director for Ford Department
Time’s most influential automaker is outstanding at execution, and the employment enactment is another benchmark of Ford’s determination. The result of Ford’s tenacity has the automaker months ahead of its 2023 contract negotiations. Initially, Ford’s contract negotiations served as Ford+’s growth strategy.
The Ford+ growth strategy enclosed plans to grow various vehicles like North America’s Ranger pickup and the all-new global Mustang coupe. Moreover, Ford Pro customers would also obtain an all-new electric commercial vehicle from the Ford+ expansion.
The Blue Oval City has financed $3.7 billion into manufacturing Ford facilities across Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri. Aside from Ford’s employment expansion, the new UAW-Ford union will assist in expanding 74,000 additional jobs. The results from the supplementary job findings originate from a 2020 BCG study established on the economic influence of the F-Series production.
“Ford is America’s Number 1 employer of hourly autoworkers, and this investment only deepens our commitment to building great new vehicles – from an all-new Mustang to new EVs – right here in the U.S. in partnership with the UAW. I am proud that we are investing in the Midwest and taking real action to provide better benefits and working conditions for our workers on the plant floor.”
– Executive Chair of Ford, Bill Ford
