The pilot program has been extended to consist of offers to rideshare drivers for lease options on Ford’s Mustang Mach-E models.

Ford Drive is an initiative of Ford Next. This branch incubates and launches new corporations that create value for Ford by complementing Ford products and growing new business enterprise models and consumer experiences.

“As we continue marching toward our zero-emissions goal, Uber is thrilled to partner with Ford to provide an attractive and affordable option for leasing a leading EV and help drivers lower running costs and emissions. It’s a win for drivers, their riders, and the communities where they live,” said Christopher Hook, Uber’s global head of sustainability.

The option allows drivers to lease a Mustang Mach-E between one and four months. Ford and Uber are testing this pilot program in San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The automobile is delivered to the driver within weeks, and they use the Ford Drive app to keep track of payments and service. Service and upkeep of these motors are performed through dealers as well.

Ford Next and Uber launched the flexible lease pilot in 2022 in San Diego and are growing the pilot program to three California cities. California is Uber’s primary North American market for EV uptake, with almost ten percent of all on-trip miles finished in fully electric-powered automobiles as of late 2022.

“We understand uptime and ease of use are critical to every rideshare driver. As more of them make the switch to electric vehicles, we’re building the Ford Drive program around their unique needs,” said Bill Knapp, who leads Ford Drive. “We’re glad that the initial feedback on this venture has been so strong, and it’s exciting to learn from these driver experiences to explore solutions supporting Uber and Ford’s shared electrification goals.”

Uber’s goal is to be a zero-emissions platform in North America and Europe by 2030, and it has pledged $800 million in incentives and resources to assist drivers in transitioning to electric-powered automobiles.

Drivers of fully electric-powered vehicles on the Uber platform in North America are eligible for the Zero Emissions incentive, which currently allows them to earn an extra $1 on every Uber Rides experience up to $4,000 per calendar year. In addition, the Mustang Mach-E is eligible for Comfort Electric, Uber’s premium zero exhaust ride offering.

Ford is making an investment of more than $50 billion in electric-powered vehicles through 2026. As part of its Ford+ plan, Ford is operating to deliver a 600,000 EV production run rate globally by the end of this year and two million globally by the end of 2026.

Ford Mustang Mach-E and Charging

In the EV space, some motors offer greater overall performance, and others provide extra range; however, there are few that deliver a balance of those key attributes, just like the Mach-E. The wagon-like Ford SUV receives as much as 314 miles of range and hits 60 mph in 5.2 seconds in all-wheel-drive trim. It’s also excellent to drive across the city, thanks to a suspension that does an extremely good mission absorbing bumps in the road and a cabin that remarkably isolates road noise. Drivers on the Uber platform have enough trunk space and seating for riders who are taking trips within the city or to the airport. Drivers have access to greater than 85,000 charging plugs and are growing greater via the BlueOval Charge Network, North America’s most prominent public charging network.
