Ford Will Be Building a New EV Plant in Spain
Ford will be constructing a new manufacturing plant in Valencia, Spain. This new plant will focus solely on electric vehicles which is something Ford has been heavily investing in as of late. Having recently released its all-electric F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford is hoping to increase its production of EVs. Customers have already started to receive their vehicle orders, so now the Blue Oval must continue to meet the rising demand for its EVs. The increase in EV production also has another benefit. It will allow Ford to meet the guidelines set forth by the European Parliament which may force automakers to only sell electric vehicles starting in 2035. We’ll take a look at Ford’s new factory and see what it will mean for the Blue Oval.Â
Ford Will Construct a New Factory in Valencia
Ford will be building a new factory in Valencia, Spain that will focus solely on electric vehicles. This new factory will allow the Blue Oval to get ahead of the curve before European guidelines limit petrol and diesel vehicles. Currently, in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions, the European Parliament is debating legislation that will ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles from 2035 on. Ford wants to get ahead of this ban by increasing the production of its EVs like the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E. Ford may also produce new EVs in the near future. About the new Valencia plant, Ford’s European division chairman Stuart Rowley said,Â
“Bringing our all-new electric vehicle architecture to Valencia will help us build a profitable business in Europe,” said Stuart Rowley.
In addition to the new Spain factory, Ford has several other manufacturing plants in Europe. Over the years, Ford has had a tough time marketing itself in Europe. Despite this difficulty, the Blue Oval’s latest Valencia plant will help it better meet the demand of its customers. As automakers have continued to release new EVs, consumer demand for them has increased. This is especially the case in Europe. The Valencia plant will allow Ford to produce more EVs. The new factory will utilize Ford’s electric vehicle technology and will focus on EV production. Ford will also be restructuring some of its other plants to be more capable of making electric vehicles. About its goals, Ford CEO Jim Farley said,
“The European auto industry is extremely competitive, and to thrive and grow we can never settle for less than unbelievably great products… [and] ultra-lean operations,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s president and chief executive.
