Ford’s Electric Vehicle Sales Surge in Q1, Bolstered by Commercial Success

Ford’s foray into the electric vehicle market has yielded impressive results in the first quarter of 2024, with sales witnessing a significant surge across its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. In Q1 (2024), Ford recorded a remarkable 86 percent increase in EV sales, reaffirming the growing demand for electric mobility solutions. The automaker sold 20,223 EVs, securing its position as America’s second-best-selling EV brand for the quarter, trailing only an inch behind Tesla.

Ford’s electric portfolio is led by the Mustang Mach-E, which experienced strong Q1 sales of 9,589 units, marking a substantial 77 percent increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the F-150 Lightning, America’s best-selling electric truck, witnessed a noteworthy sales surge of 80 percent, reaching 7,743 trucks.

The success story extends beyond passenger vehicles. In Q1, the Ford E-Transit emerged as America’s best-selling electric van, with sales of 2,891 units, representing a remarkable 148 percent increase compared to Q1 last year (2023). Q1 2024 also marked the best-ever sales performance for the E-Transit since its launch in 2022.

In addition to its strides in the EV market, Ford’s commercial vehicle segment has also seen remarkable success. Transit van sales, celebrating their 10th anniversary in the U.S., reached a record-breaking 39,890 units in Q1, marking a 25 percent increase compared to the previous year. Ford’s commercial vans continue to be a source of strength for the American automaker, with sales totaling 55,295 vans, up 19 percent in Q1, extending a streak of 45 consecutive years of commercial van sales success.
