The United Auto Workers (UAW) union comprises almost 150,000 members who assemble American vehicles for automakers such as Ford. They began striking at midnight on September 14 (2023), the first major strike since 2019. The previous strike involved almost 50,000 GM (General Motors) workers on a 40-day strike.

A lengthy strike by an auto union could significantly impact the availability of specific car models, such as the Ford Mustang, in terms of trims, colors, or options for enthusiasts who appreciate a tailored experience. As production lines go idle, the choices for these models may become limited or unavailable. The UAW Strike could lead to disappointment for customers expecting a specific car with certain features.

Apart from affecting the production of new cars, a strike by UAW could also cause the closure of parts manufacturing. The strike could result in limited availability of parts at dealerships for regular maintenance and fewer replacement parts for body shops.
