New Off-Road Features for the 2021 Ford Explorer

Within three years, Ford Explorer owners reported a 50% increase in off-road usage. So for anyone sick and tired of staying in between the lines, the 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline is calling!  

The newest edition to the Expedition family is the Timberline variation. In addition, Ford proclaimed the latest Explorer to be the “most off-road-capable Explorer ever.” 

The Timberline comes equipped with Rugged Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires, along with a mild suspension lift for an additional .8 inches to the Explorer’s ground clearance. The extra lift brings the Timberline’s ground clearance to 8.7 inches. 

The altered bumper fascias enhance the SUV’s approach and departure angles to 23.5 and 23.7 degrees. There’s also an extensive set of steel skid plates that shields the Explorer’s belly. 

Other enhancements include the power steering calibration improvements, a new anti-roll bar, spring rates, and heavy-duty shocks. A Torsen rear differential also helps the rear tire achieve the best grip for the most torque. In addition to the Torsen, an enhanced terrain-management system offers seven modes. One of the seven modes is Trail and Deep Snow/Sand. 

The 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline comes to life with the Explorer’s base engine. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.3-L Inline-4 with 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the Timberlines towing capacity is up to 5,300 pounds.
