On April 26, 2022, Ford launched the production of its all-electric pickup, the F-150 Lightning. The launch of the F-150 Lightning commemorates a tremendous milestone for the Detroit automaker as the US takes strides towards more electric vehicles.

The hard part has just begun as many Americans patiently play the waiting game as the construction of their F-150 Lightning begins. Thanks to a faster acceleration than any F-150 Ford has ever created. Furthermore, Lightning enthusiasts patiently await the pickup because the electric pickup is the only EV with a starting price that’s less than $40,000

The F-150 Lighting will come to life at Ford’s ultra-modern facility, the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is located at Ford’s renowned Rouge Complex. As a result, the electric F-150 will become the first electric pickup to declare being ‘Built Ford Tough.’ The Ford F-Series proudly bears the crown of America’s best-selling truck for 45 successive years. Moreover, a 2020 study revealed that the F-Series ranks second in revenue as the iPhone places first amongst all other American consumer products.

“Today we celebrate the Model T moment for the 21st Century at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. The Rouge is where Ford perfected the moving assembly line, making it a fitting backdrop as we make history again. The stunning anticipation for F-150 Lightning is a credit to the work of our Ford engineers and designers, and the UAW team members who are building these trucks with pride.”

– Bill Ford, Ford Executive Chair

The demand for Ford’s electric pickup is outstanding; the new pickup holds a reservation count that exceeds 200,000 orders. As a result, the Blue Oval automaker understood that it needed to extend production of the F-150 Lightning to the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center to satisfy the pickups demand. Moreover, the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center will function as the F-150 Lightning’s new production home as the electric pickup’s annual production rate increases to 150,000 by 2023.

Since the release of the F-150 Lightning, Ford has produced 750 jobs and an investment of $950 million, just for the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. The Blue Oval metropolis also invested over $1 billion. The billion-dollar investment produced 1,700 new jobs in five different Ford plants throughout Michigan.

“America’s real transition to electric vehicles starts now. F-150 Lightning is just the beginning of our ambitions for growth and leadership in digital, electric vehicles. We continue to expand our EV manufacturing footprint across the U.S., including the start of site preparation at BlueOval City, which will enable us to meet the ever-increasing customer demand for our exciting EV line-up.”

– Jim Farley, Ford President, and CEO

The Blue Oval automaker will deliver over 2 million electric vehicles annually by 2026, that production output places the automaker at one-third of its promised global volume, as automakers alike look to supply at least 50 percent of electric cars by 2030.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning (with the extended-range battery) accelerates from zero to 60 mph in under five seconds. Additionally, the F-150 Lightning encloses a 10-kilowatt smart power plant on wheels and a captivating starting price that’s less than $40,000 before the appropriate tax credits. Moreover, 75% of the F-150 Lightning’s reservation holders have never owned or leased a Ford vehicle. So, these first-time F-150 owners are in for the trill of a lifetime.
