Production Triples for the Ford F-150 Lightning
Ford Motor Company has resumed production of its F-150 Lightning after a six-week shutdown to expand and retool its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center plant. The EV plant expansion will triple the manufacturing capacity of the Ford F-150 Lighting, which will allow the automaker to produce up to 150,000 units per year by the fall of 2023.
The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is increasing production of the F-150 Lightning truck. It’s exciting to witness the American automaker meet the growing demand for the critically-acclaimed electric pickup. Despite the temporary shutdown of the Ford factory causing some delays, the facility is now back on track to build more than 70,000 electric trucks in 2023.
“We are all looking forward to getting these F-150 Lightning trucks into the hands of our customers – from the U.S. to Norway. This milestone is the result of a lot of hard work and collaboration.”
-Ford’s Director of Manufacturing, Debbie Manzano
Additionally, the revamped EV Center attains new equipment to improve vehicle quality. Ford’s North American plants employ advanced tools to measure and validate the precision of the exterior body fit. Furthermore, the American automaker added a new station to validate wheel alignment and headlamp aim for driver assist technology.
The Blue Oval automaker will train 1,200 new employees in manufacturing over the next three weeks starting August 2023. Ford’s new operators will onboard quickly and grow into experts under the supervision of experienced employees through a buddy system.
Ford plans to increase battery pack production at the Rawsonville (Michigan) Components Plant and at the Electric Powertrain Center in Van Dyke (Michigan) to match the scale of the F-150 Lightning assembly at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.
