The 2022 Ford Escape and 2022 Ford Bronco Sport Go Head-to-Head

November 3rd, 2021 by

Ford Escape

Ford Escape

The 2022 Ford Escape offers four engines, including the hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The S (Base) model yields a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine. The 3-cylinder engine is the only engine for the two lower trims, S and SE. With the SEL qualified for the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo packing a bit more of a punch.

A majority of the trims are available in all-wheel drive, with the base S trim and plug-in hybrid being front-wheel drive.

Leave the hood alone, embrace the interior, and consumers will find a very spacious compact crossover. The Escape is remarkably roomy with 40.7 inches of maximum rear legroom and comfortable seating.

The Escape’s interior is efficient; however, consumers should avoid the S trim because it lacks Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration and holds a 4.2-inch infotainment screen.

Base Safety features include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert.

The Escape hybrid trims come similarly equipped to its gasoline brethren, generating 200 horsepower. The hybrid provides 44 MPG in the city, while the plug-in variant yields 105 MPGe with a 37-mile battery-only range for those running on fumes days because, hey, sometimes it happens.

Ford Bronco Sport

Ford Bronco Sport

The Bronco Sport is no Bronco. The Bronco is either a two-door or a four-door; the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport comes only with a four-door configuration. Unlike the adventurous Bronco, the Ford Bronco Sport is a city-friendly SUV.

Even though the Bronco Sport isn’t as adventuresome, the Sport is still a worthy off-roader with all-wheel drive and a terrain management system. The terrain management system is adjustable for any terrain.

The Bronco Sport provides a gentle and polished excursion on the pavement. The base turbocharged 3-cylinder engine is worthy of the last name Sport. There’s also the 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder for those who seek more excitement.

Standard features:

  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
  • USB-A ports
  • USB-C ports

Ford Co-Pilot360 (Standard Safety features):

  • Blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-keeping system
  • Automatic emergency braking

Which One is the Best?

Although the 2022 Ford Escape isn’t the sportiest, open the doors, a large interior awaits. For such a compact vehicle, the Escape is cozy with hybrid powertrains essential to enhancing fuel economy. But the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is the polar opposite, an SUV that treads through the city with ease and tackles the woods for good measure. The Bronco Sport is practical but never too shy to get dirty.
