The 2022 Ford Maverick is a Big but Little Truck

Ford Maverick

Sedans were once the staple of American vehicles, and now Ford declared all cars (except the Mustang) will cease to exist. As a result, the 2022 Ford Maverick holds the entry-level position for the highly anticipated Ford lineup.

The Maverick serves as a successor to the previous-generation Ford Ranger, released more than ten years ago. The Maverick holds a feasible starting price. If the starting trim, XL, doesn’t appeal, there are two other trims to choose from like the XLT and Lariat. Small big trucks are making a comeback, with the 2022 Hyundai Santana Cruz ready to unleash its fair share of adventure as well.

Approach the Maverick, and the low roofline is an attention grabber. The new truck perches close to five inches lower than the current Ranger and seven inches lower than the F-150. As a result, anyone taller than five-foot-nine sees right over the cab, a rare commodity for pickups in this day and age.

The Maverick holds the same C2 unibody platform as the Escape, but comparisons can draw closer to the mini F-150. Again, the chassis is shared with the Escape, but the Maverick tackles an enthralling 1500-pound payload capability. Furthermore, competitors like the Toyota Tacoma don’t stand a chance.

The base model Maverick provides a front-wheel-drive four-cylinder hybrid. The small pickup holds a combined output of its 2.5-liter inline-four and two electric motors rendering 191 horsepower. The Maverick’s starting price commences at $21,490* (not including the destination fee). The hybrid Maverick is $7,785 less than the Escape holding the same powertrain. If the entry-level pickup isn’t virile enough, the upgrade contains a 250 horsepower turbo with a 2.0-liter inline-four; but prepare for a $1085 upcharge for any trim.

Seeing a low price, many users anticipate limited features, but tentative buyers should prepare to be amazed. Cruise control is an option starting at the XL base model. Push-button start becomes available on the premium Lariat trim, which holds a starting price of $26,985*. Heated seats and steering wheels come included on the Luxury package of the XLT or the Luxury package Lariat trims.

There’s so much light at the end of the Maverick exhaust. With many unique materials and innovative flexibility. The interior doesn’t feel cheap, truly one of Ford’s most creative by far. The light trim on the front dash holds scraps of carbon fiber meshed inside, alluding to a quartz countertop. There are also splashes of color located on the vents and console bin.

The top dash contains hard plastic, but graining amplifies its lustrous appearance. The door pockets come skillfully designed, eliminating the typical grab handle and allowing ample height for stowing tall water bottles.

The 4.5-foot bed contains slots for lumber, dividing the available space horizontally, thus creating two-tier storage. The tailgate has a middle position that places it at the same level as the wheel wells, which serves instrumental when carrying four by eight plywood. There’s also an electrical circuit with a 20-amp fuse located at the rear of the bed.

With the Ford Maverick receiving over 100,000 orders, Ford’s decision to sway away from cars proves well constructed.
