The Ford Super Duty Might be Named 2024 North American Truck
Ford accomplished a remarkable feat over the last three years by winning the North American Truck of the Year award three times in a row. In 2021, the then-revamped Ford F-150 won the award, followed by the Ford Maverick in 2022 and the Ford F-150 Lightning in 2023. This impressive winning streak may continue in 2024, as both the recently updated Ford Ranger and the all-new Ford Super Duty were nominated for the award a few months ago.
2024 North American Truck of the Year
The highly-anticipated reveal of the nominees for the prestigious 2024 North American Truck of the Year have just been announced and the competition is fierce. After an extensive vetting process, only 25 models out of the initial 52 qualified entries made it through to secure a spot in the top three. The selection process considered innovation, design, safety, performance, and value factors. Unfortunately, the Ford Ranger failed to make it to the final round, but the Ford Super Duty managed to secure a place among the top contenders. The Super Duty is known for its impressive towing and hauling capabilities, making it a favorite among truck enthusiasts.
This year, the Super Duty faces stiff competition from General Motors’ two impressive trucks – the Chevy Colorado and the Chevy Silverado EV. The Chevy Colorado boasts excellent off-road capabilities, while the Silverado EV is a game-changer with its all-electric powertrain but technically follows in the footsteps of the F-150 Lightning. Each of these trucks has its unique strengths and features, making them worthy contenders for the prestigious award.
It’s worth noting that the original lineup included the Ranger and GMC Canyon, but they were disqualified during the selection process due to needing to meet the strict criteria. With such a strong lineup, the competition is sure to be intense, and truck enthusiasts around the world will be eagerly waiting to see who takes home the coveted North American Truck of the Year award for 2024.
A panel of 50 jurors carried out a thorough evaluation process to determine the winners in each category. The evaluation process involved a comprehensive analysis of each vehicle in all possible ways. The process commenced with an annual comparison drive at the Detroit Auto Show in Michigan, followed by individual and collective assessment of the vehicles by the jurors. After careful deliberation, the jurors then cast their votes to identify the top three finalists in each category. The winners will be announced at a special event scheduled to take place in Detroit on January 4th, 2024.
“Electric vehicles again make up more than half of our finalists,” said NACTOY President Jeff Gilbert. “That shows how important they are to carmakers and how many more choices car buyers now have. But there is a lot of variety in this group, including a big work truck, a hybrid and a family sedan.”
