2022 Ford Bronco Raptor to Feature New EcoBoost Engine
The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is on its way. Ford has been highlighting the new variant Bronco and its high-performance capabilities with dirt-trailing teaser shots and pics. The Blue Oval has also showcased the Bronco Raptor’s new exterior and hinted at a more powerful V6 engine. Ford is hoping to expand its Raptor family with this new addition Bronco. In order to join that family, however, it requires an elite level of durability and capability. Although the Ford Bronco has what it takes to compete against competitors like Subaru and Jeep, as part of the Raptor family, Ford wanted to ensure that it improved the off-road SUV overall. This meant beefing the 2022 Bronco Raptor up and installing a powerful new EcoBoost engine. We’ll have to wait for more information about the release date, but this Bronco is sure to make a splash upon its official debut.
2022 Bronco Raptor Receives New EcoBoost Engine
Ford has teased the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor for some time. The Blue Oval has stated that the Bronco Raptor trim will feature greater power and capability as it joins the Raptor family. After a long wait, Ford has finally released some specifications and performance metrics for the 2022 Bronco Raptor. The most significant is the arrival of a new 3.0L Ecoboost twin-turbo V6 which was borrowed from the Ford Explorer ST. Ford’s performance team made sure to modify the borrowed engine so that it would fit perfectly in line with the required standards of the Bronco. The engine features unique cylinder heads that help eliminate exhaust-gas recirculation to ensure maximum airflow into and out of the engine. Â
The 3.0L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 equipped in the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is capable of 400 horsepower and 415lb-ft of torque. These estimates come from the Explorer ST, but in the Bronco Raptor, these numbers may see an increase. Peak output specifications are expected to release in late February so we’ll know for sure then. Aside from numbers, the new engine combines with the Bronco’s signature Baja mode to exceed expectations. Ford’s team will be updating the Baja drive mode to activate an anti-lag turbo calibration that will maximize performance during high speeds.
The Bronco Raptor will keep its standard 10-speed automatic transmission but Ford will be revising the torque converter and adding a second transmission oil cooler. The 4×4 SUV will see its track width increase by 8.2 inches in the front and 6.7 inches in the rear. Ford will also strengthen the front half shafts and the ends of the front driveshaft with beefier constant-velocity joints. The outer hubs and bearings will also be strengthened. These will allow the Bronco Raptor to better handle tough terrain and potential jumps. With all the specs and tuning, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is looking to be a dominant member of the Raptor family. The high-performance SUV will release in the second half of 2022 so we’ll be staying tuned for more information.
