Some Ford electric vehicle owners are currently beta-testing a new charging feature. Once the testing phase is complete, the automaker intends to make this feature available on all new models of EVs. The primary objective of the new feature is to enhance user experience and make it more convenient for users to charge their vehicles. Furthermore, the charging update will introduce new software designed to simplify the charging process and make it as hassle-free as possible.

Ford recently launched a new charging feature called Charge Assist, introduced in Europe in April 2022. The new feature is designed to help EV drivers locate charging stations through their SYNC 4 infotainment system. A group of beta testers in the US received access to the feature, which is expected to be available to all EV owners soon. The charging feature was made public earlier last month (September 2023) through an over-the-air (OTA) update.

When Ford launched the Charge Assist feature, electric vehicle enthusiasts utilized it to locate charging stations. Ford’s Assist feature provided information on the charging stations’ availability, speed, and cost. However, the Blue Oval recently upgraded the Charge Assist feature, making it even more convenient for electric vehicle owners. With the new update, users can locate the closest charging station, pay, and begin charging, all from inside their vehicle.

Ford’s upgraded Charge Assist feature is impressive because EV enthusiasts can now charge their vehicles without using a smartphone app like FordPass or a third-party option. Instead, Ford fans can activate the Charge Assist app from the EV’s infotainment system while inside the vehicle, and the charging process will begin. Payment is processed automatically via the FordPass credit card that is on file. Beta testers have highly praised this new feature, which promises to make the charging process for Ford EV owners more seamless and user-friendly than ever before.

The Charge Assist feature is incredibly convenient and highly versatile for Ford EV fans. They can quickly end their charging session from either the vehicle or the charger. The Ford feature is compatible with any charger in the automaker’s Charge Network, which includes significant charging network providers such as Electrify America, Shell Recharge, ChargePoint, EVgo, EV Connect, FLO, Electric Circuit, Blink, and more. A few months ago, Ford Pro, the automaker’s commercial and software unit, posted a video on YouTube explaining how to use Charge Assist for fleet use. The new charging feature will be available on all current and upcoming Ford electric vehicles, including popular models like the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit.
