Ford and Uber Partner Up for ‘Flexible Lease Pilot’
The Blue Oval is a famous automaker, revealing another exclusive partnership. Ford and Uber have teamed up to offer a new leasing option for rideshare drivers who want to try sustainable driving before making a big commitment. The Ford Drive program provides flexible access to the electric Mustang and is piloted in San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Vehicle deliveries for the Los Angeles area began in early June of 2023.
Rideshare drivers can lease a Mustang Mach-E on a flexible contract that lasts one to four months, depending on the location. In addition, Ford delivers the electric vehicle within two weeks, and enthusiasts can manage payments and services through the Ford Drive app. The Ford Drive team works with local dealers in each city to purchase a fleet of Mustang Mach-Es, and those dealers carry out maintenance or repair work.
Uber and Ford have launched a pilot program in San Diego, offering over 150 Ford Next EV SUVs through a flexible lease. This program is now available for test drives to drivers in three cities in California. In 2022, California became Uber’s top North American market for EV adoption, with nearly ten percent of all on-trip miles completed by Uber drivers in all-electric vehicles.

Uber pledged to become an environmentally-friendly platform in North America and Europe by 2030. To achieve this objective, Uber has set aside $800 million to provide incentives and resources to drivers and help them transition to using EVs.
A fully electric vehicle on Uber in North America, enthusiasts can utilize the Zero Emissions incentive. From there, drivers earn an extra $1 on every Uber Rides trip, with a maximum of $4,000 per calendar year. Furthermore, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is eligible for Uber’s premium zero exhaust ride offering, Comfort Electric.
Uber encourages drivers to switch to EVs because the mobility conglomerate observed that communities experience nearly four times more emissions reduction when high-mileage drivers switch to electric, as stated in Uber’s SPARK! Report.
