Ford Celebrates Women’s Empowerment during Women’s History Month
Ford Motor Company has long been committed to empowering women, both within its organization and in the wider community. As International Women’s Month celebrations take place this March (2024), Ford continues to be at the forefront of promoting gender equality and diversity in the workplace.
One of the ways in which Ford is making a difference is through its Women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program. This initiative is designed to inspire and encourage young women to pursue careers in STEAM fields and to help bridge the gender gap in these industries. The program provides mentorship opportunities, internships, and scholarships to young women who demonstrate a passion for STEAM subjects. Through this program, Ford is helping to create a pipeline of talented and diverse candidates for the jobs of the future.
Ford is also working to promote diversity and inclusion within its own organization. In 2020, Ford announced that it had achieved gender pay equity in the United States, meaning that women are paid the same amount as their male counterparts for equal work. This is a significant achievement and one that demonstrates Ford’s commitment to creating a fair and equitable workplace for all employees.
Ford is committed to increasing the representation of women in leadership positions. In 2018, Joy Falotico was appointed as its Chief Marketing Officer, making her the first woman to hold that position in the company’s history. Since then, Ford has continued to make strides in promoting women to leadership positions, with women now holding key roles in areas such as finance, engineering, and human resources.
Beyond its own organization, Ford is also making a difference in the wider community by supporting organizations that work to empower women and girls. For instance, Ford recently announced a $250,000 donation to Girls Who Code, a non-profit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology. This donation will help support Girls Who Code’s programs, which provide girls with the skills, resources, and support they need to pursue careers in technology.
Another example of Ford’s commitment to empowering women is its partnership with the Empowerment Plan, a non-profit organization that employs homeless women to create specialized coats that can be converted into sleeping bags. Through this partnership, Ford provides funding and support to help the Empowerment Plan expand its reach and impact.
In addition to these programs and partnerships, Ford is also working to create a culture of inclusivity and belonging within its organization. This includes providing training and resources to help employees recognize and address unconscious bias, as well as creating employee resource groups that support diverse communities within the company.
