Recent reports suggest that the C8 Corvette will get up close and personal with a new rival, as the Ford GT wanders around Ford testing facilities. Anticipation on the GT engine predicted a 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost, but that’s not the engine reportedly heard all over town. 

Enthusiasts and fans expected the mule to carry a de-tuned variation of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6. But the twin-turbo V-6 engine is also familiar in the current model of the Ford GT. However, reports indicate that the prototype’s engine sounds nothing like the V-6. Unfortunately, there’s been no confirmation on a V-8 either. So speculation leaves many to believe that the mule is lugging around a flat-plane V-8 engine that powers the Mustang Shelby GT350. 

The mystery prototype could mark the end of an era with the present-day Ford GT. The supercar made its debut in 2016 with 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. The Ford GT sprinted to life from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, 134 mph in 10.8 seconds, with a top speed of 217 mph.
