Ford Mustang Mach-E to Serve as Part of Taxi Service in NYC
Ford will be getting a huge publicity boost if the EV start-up Gravity gets its way. The start-up company Gravity will be using Ford’s Mustang Mach-E along with Tesla’s Model Y as part of their new taxi service in New York City. The company plans to introduce a fleet of electric vehicles as a way to combat the ongoing climate crisis. The Mach-E and Model Y will serve as environmentally friendly taxis that can be hailed and paid for through regular yellow taxi e-hail apps. Alongside this electric taxi service, Gravity will also be working on installing a charging infrastructure system throughout NYC. The goal is to create fast-charging sites as well as premium charging hubs for EV owners. We’ll be looking at the logistics, but on the surface, this seems a great way to help combat carbon emissions while also improving travel convenience.
Ford Mustang Mach-E to Be Used as Taxis
Ford will be lending its all-electric Mustang Mach-E to the EV start-up company Gravity. The start-up will be launching a fleet of electric vehicles as a taxi service in New York City. The service will operate similarly to the current taxi system only the vehicles will be different. Gravity hopes to create an environmentally friendly fleet of taxis that are both affordable and convenient. The company also wants to act as a charging infrastructure hub for its own EVs as well as other consumers’. EV owners will be able to charge their vehicle at one of Gravity’s premium changing stations.
Gravity will be using the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y as the first 50 vehicles within its EV fleet. Both vehicles will feature a rally yellow exterior color while inside, passengers will note a panoramic roof and a large 22-inch display. Commuters will be able to use the 22-inch tablet screens to play videos, listen to music, or adjust climate controls.
Gravity’s electric cabs will be charged at the company’s charging lot in Manhattan. The vehicles will feature an AI-based driver monitoring system to help ensure that drivers remain focused and attentive. The company has stated that all its drivers are approved and licensed by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission. About their fleet of electric cabs, Gravity’s CEO Moshe Cohen said,
“We’ve designed our fleet to be the smartest, safest, and most sustainable taxi to ever hit the road—something any New Yorker or visitor would be excited to flag down. We want our advanced EV fleet to not only help reinvigorate the NYC yellow taxi, but help reenergize the city and pull it toward a cleaner future,” said Moshe Cohen.
It looks like New Yorkers will have a new environmentally friendly way to commute. Here’s hoping things go as planned for the start-up Gravity. We may see them expand their operation and include more EVs in their fleet. The one thing that remains is that this is a good boost for Ford and their 2022 Mustang Mach-E.
