IIHS Awards Ford Explorer and Mustang Mach-E with a ‘Good Rating’ in New Test

The Ford Explorer and Mustang Mach-E have every right to blast Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’ because they are better than all the rest. Both Ford SUVs recently earned ‘good’ ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Further, the Blue Oval duo triumphantly finished the new advanced overlap front crash test. 

However, without some friendly competition, no test is absolute, and the IIHS delivered by examining 13 other midsize SUVs. Regardless, the Blue Stable ponies came to slay, as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Explorer earned two of four utilities to attain the institution’s top-tier ‘good rating.’

So what’s new from the specialist at IIHS? The crash experts introduced vehicles to further testing known as the 2.0 moderate front overlap crash testing. The overlap assessment measures the impact on rear-seat occupants, which previously recorded only front passengers. Nevertheless, the Mach-E earned good ratings since its beginning, as did the 2022-23 Ford Explorer. 

The Blue Oval emphasizes safety on the road to bliss with seat belts with pretensioners and load-limiting technology. Furthermore, the first and second rows aided the SUV’s triumph in its latest test outcomes. 

So what has 2023 had to offer in the accolade department? So far, the Blue Oval’s SUV sales dubbed the brand as America’s top-selling SUV maker. In addition, the Explorer earned the crown of the US’s best-selling three-row midsize SUV. In contrast, the Mustang Mach-E evolved into the second-best-selling electric SUV for 2022.
