Powering a House? What Can’t the Ford F-150 Hybrid Do?
In a world where the unexpected can happen at any time, knowing that one doesn’t have to fear losing power is a huge relief. During the Texas storm in February, many struggled to retain power any way they could. Some, however, were unphased. Those with a 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid were in this category.
The 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid is Charged Up
A 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid was able to provide an abundance of power usable for home appliances, heat, and even coffee. Who would have thought a pickup could become even more useful? With the Ford F-150 Hybrid, this rings truer than ever before as the pickup comes equipped with a PowerBoost hybrid engine capable of 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. Most impressive of all is the onboard generator which is available in several outputs—2.0 kilowatts (with a 2.7-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8) up to a maximum of 7.2 kilowatts (with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6). Called the Pro Power Onboard, the Ford F-150 Hybrid onboard generator packs a punch.
With such large power capabilities, owners of the Ford F-150 Hybrid can literally power their entire house if they choose. Using this powerful beast is relatively easy. By running a cable from the 30-amp 240-volt outlet in the bed of the pickup to a 30-amp transfer switch, Ford F-150 Hybrid owners can directly power whatever they want. There are also additional outlets that sit below the 30-amp plug (there are four regular 120-volt outlets). Each comes with a 20-amp circuit rated at 2400 watts. All power usage is displayed on the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid 12-inch dash display so owners can get an exact idea of how much power they are using.
What else can the Ford F-150 Hybrid Do?
Given the power capabilities of the Ford F-150 Hybrid, many pickup fans will be happy to know that America’s best-selling pickup is only getting better. Although Ford seemed to have envisioned the Ford F-150 Hybrid’s Pro Power Onboard generator as a tool for contractors and outdoorsy types, there are clearly more uses. This is not a bad thing. It just means the Ford F-150 Hybrid can do it all: charge construction equipment and home appliances, tow heavy materials, and safely transport people and goods. One more thing the Ford F-150 Hybrid can do is charge other vehicles, specifically electric ones.
“As long as you charge at 30 amps or less and have the correct charging adapter for the electric car, the 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard can recharge an electric car like it can power various tools and appliances. We’ve received questions occasionally on this. I think it’s a surprise to some new EV consumers.” – Mike Levine, Ford North America product communications manager.
The 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid comes equipped with a relatively clean energy source which reflects an evolving automotive industry. Automakers want to offer reliable vehicles that are also environmentally friendly. The Ford F-150 Hybrid EcoBoost engine combines an electric motor with a gasoline engine. This system allows energy to be recaptured and distributed through regenerative braking. Ford is making powerful strides with its innovations as it ramps up its vehicle’s capabilities. It is clear Ford’s vision is to produce a vehicle that can get work done, transport equipment, and serve as a reliable alternative in case of emergency.

Great article! Do you know of any place that I can get specific wiring instructions to connect my PowerBoost to my home?
