Ford will be including a charging adapter with its all-new 2022 F-150 Lightning that will be capable of supporting other EVs like Tesla. While this adapter does not normally come included with the F-150 Lightning, it seems Ford did it as a nice gesture for customers who pre-ordered the electric pickup. As part of the Lightning’s first round of deliveries, it seems Ford wanted to spread the word about the pickup truck’s capabilities. Those who pre-ordered an F-150 Lightning will see this adapter included with their pickup. As one of Ford’s first EVs alongside the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the F-150 Lightning has seen heightened interest and demand given its performance standards. We’ll take a look at this adapter and see how F-150 Lightning owners can utilize it given that the pickup features a Pro Power Onboard generator.

Ford Ships Out Adapter For F-150 Lightning Owners

Ford recently started deliveries for the all-new 2022 F-150 Lightning. Customers who pre-ordered an F-150 Lightning have already started to receive their electric pickup. Based on comments from an online Lightning Owners forum, some of these customers have been shipped an adapter that fits with a J1772 plug. This adapter is similar to Ford’s portable charger and can be adapted for other vehicles like a Tesla. It’s not clear if Ford wanted to tease Tesla with this, but according to the Lightning’s factory documentation notes, there’s no indication that the adapter ships with the truck. About the adapter, the Blue Oval stated they were to, “lend a hand if needed.”

The 2022 F-150 Lightning comes equipped with a Pro Power Onboard generator. The Pro Power Onboard generator is Ford’s sophisticated integrated solution that uses the Lightning’s battery to provide power wherever owners need it. The generator offers several available power outlets with two 120 volt outlets in the cab, four in the bed, and four in the frunk. There’s also a 240-volt outlet available for the truck bed. With the Ford Mobile Charger hooked into the onboard generator, owners can charge whatever they need including another vehicle like say a Tesla.

Starting at an MSRP of $39,974 (plus destination fee), the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning offers 563 horsepower as well as 775lb-ft of torque with an extended range battery. This battery also provides the electric pickup with 320 miles of range. The pickup’s onboard generator offers up to 9.6kW of power and for charging, the pickup features an 80-amp charge station that can fully charge the F-150 Lightning in just 8 hours. With so much capability, the F-150 Lightning will prove a tough competitor for other EVs like Tesla.
