The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning will be receiving an increase in its battery range. The Blue Oval announced that the electric pickup truck would also receive a new trailer hitch assist feature. While Ford has been making steady improvements to the electric pickup, Ford has also been aiming to increase the production of the F-150 Lightning. Similar to the situation with the Mach-E, due to high demand, Ford has had to close order banks. Thankfully, Ford will be reopening order banks to further meet consumer demand. Ford has also released a Special Services F-150 Lightning trim for police officers. With so many looking forward to the Lightning, it’s nice to see Ford expanding the truck’s range and capabilities. We’ll take a look at the additional range as well as the new feature to see what consumers can expect.

Ford Increases the F-150 Lightning’s Standard Range to 240 Miles

Ford will be increasing the battery mile range of the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning by 10 miles. While going from 230 miles of battery range to 240 is somewhat minimal, this increase is an improvement in overall capability. Owners using the extended battery will also see an improvement in range. This new increase will come standard on the new F-150 Lightnings produced in the Fall. Additionally, these trucks will have two extra exterior color options available: Avalanche Gray and Azure Gray.

In addition to the increase in battery range, Ford will also be adding a new feature to the F-150 Lightning called Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. This new feature will automatically control steering and throttle/brake inputs to make hitching trailers easier. Equipped with a dual motor setup, the F-150 Lightning offers 775lb-ft of torque. This provides owners with 10,000 pounds of towing capacity and 2,000 pounds of payload. Those interested in this new trailer hitch feature will have the option to opt for a Tow Technology Package. It will also be standard on trims like the Pro, XLT, and Lariat.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning will also be receiving a price increase. This will mark the first time that Ford has raised the price of the Lightning since its debut. According to Ford, the increase stems from higher costs in materials. While the next wave of orders for the 2023 F-150 Lightning will see the price increase, those who have already placed their orders and are awaiting delivery will not be impacted.
